The first thing you need to know is that “Kiwis” and “Aussies” aren't the same. “Kiwis” come from New Zealand, borrowing their nickname from a native, flightless bird, the Kiwi. “Aussies” come from Australia. Few people elsewhere in the world get this distinction right. The fact is Aussies and Kiwis do share some similar traits. They’re a boisterous, sociable, not-so-politically-correct bunch. But again, there are some subtle differences to help tell them apart.
          Accent 口音
Aussies pronounce mate as 'mayte', Aussies love the letter Y, and the accent can get quite nasal. Kiwis say 'sex' instead of six and generally don't count higher than five out loud. Kiwis have a broad accent like that; Aussies never let them live it down.
          Idioms 俚语
Aussies and Kiwis use a lot of similar slang – “grog” (alcohol), “tucker” (food) and “daggy” (untidy) are all the same. One key difference: where Aussies say "Bucket of chips", Kiwis say "pottle of chips" – because the idea of a bucket of chips seems just ludicrous to them. And depending on which part of Australia / NZ you are, swimwear will be called “togs” / “swimmers” / “trunks” / “cossies”.
          Sociability 社交
Mistake an Aussie for a Kiwi, they'll laugh in your face and tell you a rumour about sheep. Mistake a Kiwi for an Aussie, prepare to hear some expletives – they really don't like being mistaken for folk from the bigger island.
          Weather  天气
Aussies thrive in heat, wife-beaters and thongs to boot. Kiwis aren’t generally acclimatised to Australian summers. Where there is aircon, there will be Kiwis.
          Sport 运动
Aussies love football, Kiwis love rugby. Aussie sports commentators are enthusiastic, and fond of terms like “You beauty!”, “What a ripper”! Kiwis revere the Haka – an ancient Maori war-dance performed by their sports teams before international matches.
